MegaCon was better than I expected, even though it was packed from floor to ceiling with human bodies. I didn’t expect to like it—I hate crowds and don't follow any fandoms—but I went with an awesome group of people. Cosplay has come a long way: people looked like they had just walked off a movie set or stepped out of a comic book. I explored the community-made Star Wars town, surrounded by Mandolorians, Stormtroopers and rebels, Jedi and Sith.
In the Star Wars town, they were playing Sabacc, the poker-like card game Han Solo plays in the movies. I sat down to play a round and was dealt the most powerful, most rare hand you can get: Pure Sabacc. It's the equivalent of a royal flush in poker. You could go your whole life playing the game regularly and never see a Pure Sabacc. Not only did I get the impossible hand; I also got my opponent to go all-in against me! There’s beginner’s luck, and there’s doing the most impossible thing in the game on your first go.
So, obviously, I had to make a version of Sabacc that I could play with regular playing cards. I think I even made it better. My friends and I have certainly enjoyed it.
All that said, there was an even bigger highlight for me at MegaCon: robot wars! We got to see the one-pound and three-pound divisions. The robots hit each other so hard. We could feel the impact. Parts slammed against the bullet-proof glass surrounding the arena. We watched one bot shed the metal right off another!
