I’ve been working on multiple creative projects at a time over the past five months. This post will talk about the writing and editing end; next post will focus on the board game design end. These projects represent an immense amount of work, but every day I’m chipping away. I enjoy bouncing between projects—non-stop creating—but I’ll be honest: it gets lonely sometimes. Sometimes it’s hard to see the path forward. Making something excellent is a great goal, but it’s only the beginning for me. I want to get these books and games out to the masses, and I don’t know how. I’m inexperienced at networking, presentation, and promotion. I’m nervous—excited but nervous.
Editing Shifting Thrones
Shifting Thrones is the sequel to The Unknown Hero, book two in the trilogy. I wrote it at the same time as The Unknown Hero, but I finally had a chance to update and edit the novel. It picks up where The Unknown Hero left off. The plot centers on Krashad, a nation ruled by the cruel king of the Dragons, Vorrnum. It’s an action story with daring quests and dynamic fights. At the same time, many of the political schemes and mysteries set up in book one begin to unravel, revealing the true nature of the Deurtex invasion. I’m so excited to get the book out to my advance readers. I’ve written three full novels now; that’s thrilling to think about!
Plotting Book Three
With Shifting Thrones complete, I have a clearer vision for the final book of the trilogy. Even though the new outline hits many of the same plot points I originally had in mind, it follows a very different arc. Most of the old text is useless now. The new outline is still rough. I have to flesh it out, break it down into scenes, and then refine each narrative arc to hit its objectives.
Planning a Fantasy Trilogy
I’ve made significant headway on the world-building and plot of my fantasy series. It’s a psychological thriller focused on complex characters and an ever-evolving mystery. This is the story idea that I have been the most excited to write for years. I’ve written scenes and snippets anytime I’ve been struck with inspiration, and those have solidified elements of the characters and world. What has kept it on the back burner has been my own uncertainties about the mystery. By focusing on the world-building for a week, though, I think I finally found the answers I’ve been looking for.
Freelance Work
Over the summer, I did a little freelance article writing for businesses and editing for people in my network.
Writers Conference
I’m preparing myself for the Florida Christian Writers Conference later this month. I need to be able to put my best foot forward and throw myself into the networking opportunities. This is my chance to meet agents and represent my novel, Heart of Ice.
